Worship Program - 2/23/25

Writer's picture: Pastor GaryPastor Gary

Welcome to Worship!

We are delighted to have you with us today as we gather to worship, reflect, and grow in our faith together. Whether this is your first visit or you’ve been with us for years, we are excited to share this time with you and pray that it will encourage and inspire you in your walk with Christ.

This week, our study of King David gets exciting, but it leaves us with a great question that demands an answer. We find him stepping onto the battlefield—not as a warrior, but as a boy with a heart that burns for God’s honor. While others tremble before Goliath, David sees the real problem—the dishonor of God's name. At first, he seems interested in the reward, but God knows his heart. David’s strength wasn’t in his sling but in his love for God, a love that moved him to action. Leaving us the question: Are we fighting for His glory, our glory, or not at all?

Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus as we live out our faith through three essential practices:

  • Gathering: Our faith is shared, so we gather in worship, fellowship, and small groups to grow together.

  • Growing: Jesus calls us to mature faith. We grow by practicing spiritual disciplines, exploring God’s Word, and inviting others into the journey of faith.

  • Serving: Faith moves us beyond ourselves to love our neighbors as Christ taught us. We serve one another and our community in tangible ways that reflect God’s love.

Thank you for being here today. If you have any questions or want to learn more about how to grow in your faith, I’d love to connect with you.

Benediction

Life is much more than an accident.  Wherever I go, I believe God needs me there.  Wherever I am, I trust God has put me there.  He has a purpose for me being there - Christ, alive in me, wants to do something through me, no matter where I am.  I believe this and go in His grace and His love and His power.

Message Notes

David 4: Fighting for God's Glory

1 Samuel 17

The Dishonor of God

Dishonoring God isn't just about words—it’s about ignoring His power and fearing the enemy more than trusting Him.

  • Psalm 74:18 – "Remember this, O LORD, how the enemy scoffs, and a foolish people reviles your name." (God’s name is mocked when His people are weak in faith.)

  • Romans 1:21 – "For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking..." (Ignoring God leads to spiritual blindness.)

A Self-Interested Heart?

God sees beyond our initial motivations to the heart behind them.

  • Psalm 139:23–24 “23 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

Fighting for the Glory of God

True courage comes from zeal for God's honor, not personal pride.

  • Colossians 3:17 “17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”

True Victory Always Points to God

Bottom Line:

We often run into battles that aren’t ours to fight - battles that belong to God - let’s make sure we only fight for the Glory of God.

Are you fighting for God’s glory, just fighting, … or just here to watch?

Daily Devotional Reading:

Wake-Up Call provides a daily encouragement to shake off the slumber of our busy lives and turn our eyes toward Jesus. Each morning our community gathers around a Scripture, a reflection, a prayer, and a few short questions, inviting us to reorient our lives around the love of Jesus who transforms our hearts, homes, churches, and cities.
