On Saturday, May 6th, members of Rock Hall UMC and Wesley Chapel UMC gathered for a Church Conference in the sanctuary of Wesley. We gathered for an official vote regrading a resolution to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church.
This was a difficult step for our Churches. While we are excited about the possibility of something new, we are grieving the idea of losing an identity we have known for a very long time. Still, we remain hopeful about our future, believing God is up to something here in our church and in our community and we are excited to be a part of it.
At the Conference, it was clear of the direction our members wanted to go as over 95% of members present voted to disaffiliate. The issues underlying this vote had been discussed for months and it had become clear that in order to be faithful to the mission God has put before us, we need to realign as a church.
While this vote was very important, there is still much work to be done. We will continue to hold church meetings and update our web page with important information as we explore this new season for our Church.
We want to thank you for your continued support, and we hope that you will continue to journey with us as we work to fulfill our mission of making disciples of Jesus.
