August 29th Worship Program

Thank you for joining us for a special time of worship this weekend. Every time we get 5 Sunday's in a month, we take that 5th Sunday and worship together with our sister churches here in Rock Hall and we invite the community to join us for worship and lunch. Today is one of those Sunday's.

It's also special because in our study of the life of Joseph from Genesis, we find Jacob nearing the end of his life and he goes out just the way we would want to, surrounded by our closest loved ones.

I pray that your time with us in today's worship encourages your faith and helps you move closer to Jesus as you discover more of his plan for your life.

Merger Prayer Focus: Laying the Foundation

At the beginning of the Vital Merger process, many foundational pieces need to be in place. This first week of prayer will focus on building a solid foundation.

“Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:10-12

1. Pray for an openness to God’s presence. Isaiah 43:19

2. Pray for an openness to the action of God’s Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8

3. Pray for our Merger Team Matt 6:10

4. Pray for your neighbors Luke 10:25-29

5. Pray for the Mission Luke 4:17-21

6. Pray for Vision, Proverbs 29:18

7. Pray for Clarity of values Matt 6:24

Take it Home

Read Genesis 49:1-32

How are Judah and Joseph blessed over the other brothers? What images are used to show us God’s desire for his people? How does the promise of Judah connect to Jesus? (See passages like Romans 1:1-5, Colossians 1:13-14 and Revelation 5:5)

Why would Jacob “curse” some of the kids and not try to offer each one a positive blessing? Which kids stand out as being given a negative or even a “mixed” blessing?

This passage gives us a snapshot of the future of Israel and we see that it is a mixture of success and failure. Yet God is determined to use this people to model his grace and faithfulness. Read Deuteronomy 7:6-8, how does the blessings to Jacob’s sons mirror this passage? What does this teach us about God’s redeeming of people who follow Jesus today?
